Spankys (rating :)

Spankys is the latest upgrade to the Nana Plaza nightlife. Just negotiate the staircase to the second floor (located on the left when entering Nana Plaza), and you will notice the flashy neonlights of Spankys to the right. Spankys takes the place of two old small bars called Three Roses and Hog's Breath. Good riddance to those old bars, although some oldtimers may disagree.

Surely the name Spankys is a misspelling of some sort. Looking at the neon lights outside, Spankys suggests sexual entertainment involving spanking. However, if you enter the bar expecting some girls equipped with whips or paddles, you will be disappointed. Inside we find just another standard a-go-go bar.

There is a small partition between the door and the bar itself (so you can not look inside the bar from the outside by just moving the curtain). However, this partition seems to act like a threshold for a lot of people. We noticed quite a few customers standing there close to the entrance, look around for a while, and exiting the bar. We noticed something similar at other bars, and have no explanation for this behaviour, it just happens, and suggests that the partition is not a good idea (as are sliding doors, anything impeding easy entrance).

Neon lights at Spankys

The original owner of Spankys (the same person operates bars like Midnite Bar and Deja Vu at Soi Cowboy), orchestrated the considerable effort to build and furnish the bar, but has given up on the bar now, and ownership has changed. The new owners (managers) are quite good marketers and promote their bar very well online. We wish them well.

Girls dance on a centrally located elongated stage (with lots of lights allaround, including some light originating from the stage itself). What is striking at Spankys, is the lighting. Spankys stands out with its outside neon signs and inside lighting, mostly because the other bars at Nana Plaza are standing still in time, and do not upgrade their facilities.

There is a modest number of girls at Spankys. Shows are regularly featured. However, when compared to what is on offer next door at Angel Witch (or upstairs at Carousel) , there is room for a lot of improvement.

As in most bars, drinks are somewhat overpriced at 145 baht for an beer, soft drinks go for 120 baht. Water is available at 100 baht, but we do not know whether you get a decent sized bottle or not.
