Dollhouse (rating :)

In the years following its opening day in 2002, the Dollhouse was a great success and added another boost to Soi Cowboy nightlife. The last few years the bar seemed to muddle along nicely, with a limited number of girls on stage, and usually a limited number of visitors. Other bars, such as Tilac Bar and Baccare, became much more successful. However, during our last visit, we noticed just a few more girls, more customers also. Possibly the bar's policy of a long-lasting happy hour and cheap Heiniken draft beer works well.

There is a central moderately large 'classic' dancing stage, with barstools around. In addition, the bar features a second floor section (actually 'mezzanine' floor), but nowadyas the second floor has no dancing girls, and no seating arrangements for customers.

All of the girls dance topless, and some occasionally in the nude.
There are very few girls coming 'straight from the farm' here. That is, most girls are well into their twenties, and seem to be more 'professional' than in some other bars. This can have benefits for customers, but not for those who prefer a shy, unexperienced girl that just started working.

There are a limited number of girls working at Dollhouse, we reckon about 20-25. However, on average, they are more attractive than the girls working in other bars. As side effect of this is, that even during happy hour, some of the girls are bought out, and will possibly not be there for you to admire later on.

The bar management has a way of making customers pay for some more entertainment, by offering 'ping-pong' balls at 20 baht a piece. The idea is that you throw them on stage, so the girls dive to catch them. We understand they get 15 baht for each ball they can catch, 5 baht goes to the bar. Quite a few customers go for this (in our opinion) little scam, and throw hundreds of baht into the air that way. Hopefully, they can avoid living on social security in their latter years. We are not sure, you can see this kind of 'game' also in some other bars, but maybe Dollhouse was the one to introduce it.

A very interesting feature is that Dollhouse has a good 'happy hour' if you arrive before 9.30 P.M. Most drinks are available at just 60 baht, which is a very good deal. There are happy hours at other bars, but the one at Dollhouse seems to be attracting more customers. Furthermore, there is Heiniken draught beer, which goes in decently filled (not as large as regular botlled beer) glasses.
